Peanut Butter Bees

by Julie

This is a recipe for cute peanut-butter honey bees that involves no cooking and few ingredients.
They quick to make, and are a great high-energy snack to be enjoyed after school or any time of day.
The proportions of the ingredients below are approximate, and can be adjusted to taste:
In a large bowl, mix with your hands half a cup of peanut butter with a quarter cup of honey. You may add ground flax seed into the mixture for an even healthier twist, and to make the mixture less sticky.
Next, shape pieces of the mixture into balls with your hands, and flatten them into egg shapes. These will be the bees' bodies. The bees should be about 2 cm long, and 1.5 cm wide.
Use a toothpick dipped in cocoa powder to impress three dark stripes along the tops of the bee shapes.
Stick two slivered almonds into the sides of the bees for wings.
Refrigerate the bees on a tray of wax paper until they are firm to the touch

Banana Crunch pops

by Tina

Banana Crunch Pops
1 banana grape nuts cereal, crushed popsicle sticks Cut banana in half. Stick popsicle sticks into each banana half.
Roll bananas in crushed cereal, place on wax paper, freeze. *You can also drizzle with some honey *or if your kids like dark chocolate, you can dip the bananas in that
*I also like wrapping a slice of american cheese around the banana, just don't freeze, eat it fresh, it has a great surprising flavor
*yet another variation is to roll the banana in crushed nuts of your choice, and also drizzle with honey, or put a little brown sugar in with the nuts before you roll the banana in it

*a great little finger snack is slice up a banana about 1/3" thick and put on bread with peanut butter for banana sandwiches, cut the sandwich in fours to make finger sandwiches, tasty!

Ants on a log

by Martha

Ants On A Log Use as many clean and trimmed stalks of celery as needed and cut into two to three inch lengths.
With a butter knife spread either peanut butter or cream cheese or both, depending on your children's tastes, into the two to three inch lengths of celery.
Then top with either raisins or craisins along the length of the 'log'.
This is always a hit for the children's hor de erve table.
I liked to make a seperate table for the kids during parties. It makes them feel like they are a part of the party and that their taste is taken into account.
It also teaches them to mimic the manners of the adults they see around them. It is healthy and they can help to prepare it as well so that makes it fun!
They learn early that eating healthy does not mean it has to taste bad and that it can be an enjoyable experience.
