Here you will find recipes for breadmaking that you and your kids can enjoy making. You will find homemade bread recipes that are made quickly without yeast. You will also find bread machine recipes as well as more traditional bread making recipes.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE BREAD WITHOUT YEAST

These recipes can be made and cooked and ready to eat within a couple of hours.

GRAHAM BREAD

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or molasses
  • 1 tablespoon margerine or lard
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups graham flour
  • 4 Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • Mix the flour, graham flour, salt and baking powder together in a large bowl
  • Rub in the fat with the tips of your fingers until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs (keep your fingers cool and dry)
  • Beat egg in a large bowl, pour in the water and milk, then add the sugar or molasses;
  • Pour this liquid mixture into the flour mixture and mix well
  • Add more milk if needed to make the mixture similar to a drop batter.
  • Put this into a greased loaf pan
  • Bake about one hour in moderate oven.
  • When bread is cooked you should be able to tip it out of the tin and tap the bottom of the bread. It should sound hollow if cooked.

PEANUT BUTTER BREAD

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2/3 cup peanut butter or 1/2 cup finely ground peanuts
  • Sieve the flour and baking powder into a bowl.
  • Stir in the sugar and salt
  • Blend the peanut butter and milk together with a fork.
  • Mix the peanut butter mixture into the flour mixture and mix well
  • Pour this into a greased loaf pan
  • Bake in a slow oven 45 to 50 minutes.
  • This is best when it is a day old.

How to make homemade bread - BAKING POWDER BREAD

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 7 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 medium sized, cold, boiled potato
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pint milk or water
  • Sieve the flour, salt, sugar and baking powder together into a large bowl,
  • Mash the potato and mix into the flour well
  • Add enough milk or water and mix well to make a nice smooth dough
  • Pour into a greased loaf tin, brush with melted butter,
  • Stand in warm place about 1/2 hour.
  • Bake in moderate oven for about one hour.

SANDWICH ROLLS

  • 6 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon margerine or lard
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • Sieve together the flour, salt and baking powder
  • Rub in the margerine or lard using the tips of your fingers
  • Pour in the milk and mix with a spoon until the mixture forms a smooth dough
  • Lift out the dough onto a floured board; knead quickly to form a smooth dough
  • Break the dough into small pieces about the size of a small orange
  • Shape each one as you like then place it onto a greased baking tray
  • Stand in warm place 15 to 20 minutes then brush each roll with milk.
  • Bake in very hot oven.
  • When almost baked brush again with melted butter.
  • Bake 10 minutes longer and serve hot.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE BREAD WITH YEAST

Milk Bread Recipe

  • Milk (room temp) 1 and 5/8 of a cup
  • Butter 2 tbsp
  • Sugar 3 tbsp
  • Salt 1 1/2 tsp
  • Strong White Flour 4 1/2 cups
  • Yeast 1 1/2 tsp
  • Pour flour into a large bowl
  • Rub the butter into the flour with your finger tips.
  • Add the rest of the dry ingredients and mix really well.
  • Add the milk and stir in well
  • When the dough is pulling away from the sides of the bowl use your hand to form into a dough
  • Turn dough out onto a floured surface
  • Knead by pushing your palms into the dough, pulling the dough together into a ball and twisting then pushing your palms into the dough again.
  • Do this a few times until the dough feels smooth
  • Place this into a greased bread tin, cover with cling film
  • Leave in a warm place to rise for about 1/2 hour until doubled in size
  • Set oven to about 350 degrees F
  • Remove cling film then place in oven and bake for around 50 minutes until it sounds hollow underneath

How to make homemade bread - Banana Pecan Bread Recipe

1½ lb Recipe

  • Grapefruit Juice 1 cup
  • Butter 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla Extract 1/2 tsp
  • Clear Honey 2 tbsp
  • Medium Egg beaten 1
  • Ripe Bananas mashed 2
  • Pecan Nuts crushed 1 tbsp
  • Granary Flour 2 cups
  • Strong White Flour 2 and 1/8 of a cup
  • Fast Action Yeast 1 tsp
  • Pour flour into large mixing bowl.
  • Rub the butter into the flour with your finger tips.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and mix really well.
  • When the dough is pulling away from the sides of the bowl use your hand to form into a dough
  • Turn dough out onto a floured surface
  • Knead by pushing your palms into the dough, pulling the dough together into a ball and twisting then pushing your palms into the dough again.

How to make homemade bread - Multigrain Bread Recipe

  • Tepid Water 1 and 1 1/3 of a cup
  • Butter 2 tbsp
  • Sunflower Oil 2 tbsp
  • Clear Honey 2 tbsp
  • Malt Extract 1 tbsp
  • Poppy seeds 1 tbsp
  • Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
  • Rolled Oats 2 tbsp
  • Salt 11/2 tsp
  • Skimmed Milk Powder 3 1/2 tbsp
  • Granary Flour 1 and 1 1/3 of a cup
  • Rye Flour 3/4cup
  • Strong White Flour 3/4 cup
  • Strong Wholemeal Flour 1 and 3/4 cups
  • Yeast 1 tsp
  • Pour flour into large mixing bowl.
  • Rub the butter into the flour with your finger tips.
  • Add the rest of the dry ingredients and mix really well.
  • Dissolve yeast into a little of the tepid water
  • Add this and the rest of the liquid into the dry ingredients
  • When the dough is pulling away from the sides of the bowl use your hand to form into a dough
  • Turn dough out onto a floured surface
  • Knead by pushing your palms into the dough, pulling the dough together into a ball and twisting then pushing your palms into the dough again.
  • Do this a few times until the dough feels smooth
  • Place this into a greased bread tin, cover with cling film
  • Leave in a warm place to rise for about 1/2 hour until doubled in size
  • Set oven to about 350 degrees F
  • Remove cling film then place in oven and bake for around 50 minutes until it sounds hollow underneath
