Can you suggest any frugal holidays with kids for us? We have three kids and are wondering what to do this year as we are on a tight budget.

House Swap - great way to save on travel
by: Anne

We have two small children and started swapping homes to save money and to travel more often. We learned that a house swap has many other advantages. Including the new friends you make. A multi-bedroom house is far more comfortable than a 1 room hotel - especially when traveling with children.

We use several home exchange sites when we are looking for a swap - especially when we have specific dates and destination in mind. A home exchange site that has worked really well for us is 1st Home Exchange.

Camping holidays are great to do with kids. it is something that is very different for them and usually means very excited kids.

I would suggest if you are going for the first time that you borrow equipment if you can.
Try sites with showers and running water for the first couple of times camping with kids.
You can take food with you and also shop in local supermarkets.

There are some really great campsites that have a lot of facilities such as kids clubs and swimming pools. These can be dearer than those without, but you will be sure that the kids will be entertained.

Even a playground will be well used, our kids used to spend a lot of time playing on these. If you can take a friend for the kids to play with and even better go with another family.

i hope this gives you some ideas for frugal holidays with kids.

We swap houses each year. We have two kids 6 and 8 and they love it. We try to swap with another family who has kids the same age. they tend to have much of the same kids items as us which makes life really easy.
Try Guardian Home Exchange
Also homelink.org
You can choose to house swap in the Uk or overseas.
We have done a house swap with friends as well.

Hi there.
Why not try visiting The Youth Hostel Association website
They do camping barns that are a good price and families going together can share accomodation.
