When we play kid games and other childrens activities as a family it really builds up the excitement in our kids they feel so much more able to experiment with their coordination skills in a much safer environment than with just other kids around. We can encourage the "left footers" to relax and try different ways of achieving any physical skill.

If like our family sisters and brothers start to taunt, you can step in and show them (by example) how to be more sensitive to and help each other along when playing these easy games for kids.

Below are some fun games for kids for when we as a family play kid games - often our kids friends join in - they seem to enjoy adults being involved too! We must be doing something right if they are hanging about! Remember it's about the kids not us, so don't get too serious - have some fun too.

Circle Kicking Ball Activity

Everybody stand in a wide circle equally spaced out.

Kick the ball to one another

Each time kick to another person.

Variations open circle wider...kick with opposite feet...use a balloon...shut your eyes.

Circle Throwing/Heading Ball Activity

Everybody stand in a wide circle equally spaced out.

Throw and head back the ball to one another.

Take turns throwing to each other.

Variations open circle wider...call out different animals beginning a through z as someone heads the ball ...head the ball to someone else.

Circle Catching Ball Activity

Everybody stand in a wide circle equally spaced out.

Throw and catch a small ball between one another.

Each time throw to another person.

Variations open circle wider...throw with opposite hand...catch with one hand...catch with opposite hand.

Tag-Ball-Game

Everybody stand in a wide circle equally spaced out.

One person is "It" - "It" stands in the middle of the circle with the ball.

"It counts down from 5 and then chases everyone else - "It" can throw the ball to tag someone else.

Anyone hit by the ball - below the waist! - becomes "It".

No holding of the ball by others is allowed. Keep going until everybody has been "It".

Variations spin "It" at beginning of game so they are dizzy...allow others to protect themselves with their arms and hands ...everybody hop on one leg...have safe areas (but only safe for 10 seconds!).

Roll-Ball-Game

Everybody stand in a wide circle equally spaced out.

One person rolls the ball using both hands towards another person.

Each time roll to another person.

Variations open circle wider...roll with one hand...roll with opposite hand...shut your eyes...use a different size ball.

Bowl-Ball-Game

Everybody stand in a wide circle equally spaced out.

One person rolls the ball using both hands towards another person....but...

...has to get the ball as close as possible to the other person without the ball touching them.

Each time roll to another person.

Variations open circle wider...roll with one hand...roll with opposite hand...shut your eyes...use a different size ball...

...or try to roll ball through each others legs.

Bottoms-Up-Ball-Game

Everybody stand in a wide circle equally spaced out...but...all face outward with legs wide open... and bent down looking back through their legs.

One person rolls the ball using both hands towards another person.

Each time roll to another person.

Variations open circle wider...roll with one hand...roll with opposite hand...shut your eyes...use a different size ball

Activities

Go and get the kids out and do some physical games, its good for them and for each of us as well. You and your kids might discover they have some aptitude for a particular activity - maybe they're great at catching ball for instance Or even at the very least you might discover an interest that could become a fulfilling hobby for your child one day.

Advice

Remember grown-ups, give your little ones advice - but don't overdo this. Hey, they might end up worrying about not performing to your expectations - where is the fun in that.

Resources

For outdoor fun when you play kid games, you will not need a lot of resources apart from space. Have you like me ever been amazed that so much fun can be had with simple round things of varying sizes. From basketball to golf! The fun is achieving a certain goal within a set of simple rules. In fact, the less rules the more fun!

Warming up

It may be necessary for everyone to warm up before they play kid games. In fact it can all be part of the fun! Stretching and loosening of out joints and muscles can help each of us avoid unnecessary injuries. Our kids think it's quite a laugh when we do this...especially when we make all sorts of faces and strange noises!
